Travel Adventures, Cincinnati Attractions & Writing
The recent article on Holiday World in Cincinnati Family Magazine made the family eager to visit, so we took advantage of Saturday’s gorgeous weather and went. Of course, since Holiday World is a 3-hour drive from Cincy, it’s better for Queen City residents to stay over at Santa’s Lodge, Camp Rudolph, or other Santa Claus, IN accommodations, rather than make that kind of a drive twice in one day.
Still, we did it, and didn’t regret it. Our three youngest boys had never experienced the roller coasters at Holiday World, and got a quick introduction to the thrill of wooden coasters with our first ride, The Raven. Afterward, since we were in Halloween, we hopped on the Hallowswings before taking on the Voyage. This is the #1 wooden roller coaster in the US and my novice riders agreed with me that it is “intense.”
We took on less intimidating rides, too: water flumes, boat rides, drop zones and cars, and our favorite, Gobbler Getaway. Geoff captured the most turkeys with his gobbler gun, but I got some good pictures. Here’s one of “Grandma” introducing riders to their challenge.
Years ago, Johnny found her so scary that he wouldn’t ride. I can’t blame him.
Of course, no trip to Holiday World is complete without a visit to Santa. We said hello to the Jolly Old Elf in Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen, and now we already have our photo for this year’s Christmas card!
