Beale Street:Festival Fun Every Day and Night

DSC04123Beale Street is legendary, and lives up to the legend.  Any place that attracts talented street musicians and performers deserves a look, but it’s the barbecued chicken at Pig On Beale that’s going to get me back.  I keep trying to find that taste in Cincy, and other restaurants around the country, but so far, I just haven’t, which means, I have to go back. After we ate, we wandered the street–family friendly during the week and early evenings, and more of an adult crowd at night and on the weekends.  beale

We didn’t stay late, but still enjoyed the entertainers, mix of live music, including Blues tunes, since Congress officially declared Beale Street the Home of the Blues in 1977.

We also stopped into the shops that sell everything from musical instruments, to clothing, fine art, and kitschy souvenirs.

DSC04126The area was once the home of gamblers, theaters, bars, and voodoo, so you can still get some weird and wonderful things: magic charms, shot glasses, voodoo dolls, and endless Elvis memorabilia.
